Math Across the Levels
At this workshop, the teachers of Toddler, Casa dei Bambini and Elementary programs will tell how the mathematical thinking develops in children in the Montessori system. The teachers will show math presentations explaining how this evolution is associated with language, accuracy and logic development in the Montessori environment. Parents will have a journey into understanding of children's ability to math thinking laid down by the very nature of human being and naturally appearing at different ages.
The sequence of presentations in different Montessori programs is associated with three important principles. They allow gradual formation of knowledge which help understanding the world at the age of twelve. These knowledge combine other subjects and help to apply these discoveries in everyday life.
These principles are laid in:
- understanding of quantities and signs to express these quantities;
- math operations used in the processes of studying geometry, arithmetic and algebra;
- memorization;
Two important math processes (memorization and abstraction) lead directly to the goal of Montessori pedagogy - aid to life and independence.
The seminar will be held simultaneously in two classes of the Elementary program in Russian and English.

- How environmental changes help the child become independent and why is it so important?
- How can an adult help a child develop independence?

This is the time, when adults are called upon to help the child learn the language, gradually regulating the chaotic picture. The adult's challenge is to create conditions for spontaneous, intuitive at this stage development of written and spoken language, to recreate in the child's head a strict logic and original beauty. Dr. Maria Montessori writes that almost all normal children, having received the opportunity to use specially designed Montessori material, are able to write and read by five years old and they do it very well.
Great role in the development of the child's written and oral language plays the maturity, readiness of motor skills, especially the level of hand development. Written language requires the most complex small finger movements, closely associated with higher mental processes. All this makes us pay special attention to providing a child with the conditions for his motor skills development, especially the muscles of hands and the delicate movements of fingers. Observing children between the ages of two and six, we can conclude that it is this period of a person's life that is sensible and the most receptive to spontaneous, natural development of the hand.

Role of Father
The seminar will be held by Irina Moiseykina - a mother of to children, an AMI 0-3 specialist and will cover the tasks of a father during each period described below:
1. Before birth: taking care of mother. A happy mother is a happy child; creating the right prepared, appropriate home environment; attending training courses on childbirth.
2. After birth: seeing the baby as soon as possible, because there is a sensitive period of paternity.
3. Symbiotic period - what is it? The tasks of the father during this period are: to be a protective barrier for the family so that the mother can establish a special relationship with the child; father becomes in charge of older children (if the family has older children).
4. 6 months+: the father can establish the right balance of love between mother and child; teach / convey the cultural values of the family, hobbies, traditions; it is desirable to participate in the education of the child, since the relationship between the child's academic progress in school and the active participation of the father in the educational process has been scientifically proven; it also demonstrates the male pattern of behaviour and helps to shape the child's sexual identity.

What are the nature and origins of linear curriculum used in a traditional education with the nature and origins of nonlinear approach to learning, which implemented in Montessori method?

At the training we will try to move away from the traditional models and try to bring different models into the communication with children:
- We will practiced role-playing game to master the techniques of effective attention and support;
- Learn the technique of direct instruction;
- Explore our own position in the interaction with the child;
- Follow our own borders: where they go, how we hold them;
- Try to pay attention to matching a voice message and posture, gesture, glance, that accompany it.
